The place was clean and the service was friendly. They need to replace the sheets. I was not impressed with the torn flat sheet and holey pillow case. The shower edges inside were mouldy.

Very expensive! Breakfast was poor, arrived at the breakfast room to find tables with dirty plates and no clean cutlery. Upon request cutlery was brought but then food was already cold. Eggs were pre-cooked and not nice although you could ring bell for fresh eggs to be made, but that takes too long. Nice spacious rooms with great aircon and comfortable bed. Room could do with block out curtains to ensure a better night's rest as room 9 has got 3 big windows.

Lion's Rest Guest House
This is a lovely place to stay when visiting Mahikeng. Friendly, helpful reception. Tidy, comfortable, clean and well equipped rooms. It's close to the new mall, and not too difficult to access the highway from there. Personally, I would either stay here or at the Protea Hotel when in town depending on availability.

I stayed here with my family (wife and daughter) for 2 weeks and it was one of the worst hospitality experiences we have encountered. Yes, the place is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious but the service from the staff is horrible. The staff made us feel like we were kids staying at a boarding school. We had to beg for simple things like a daily change of linen and towels, tissue paper, coffee sachets, etc. The breakfast menu can do with a little bit of creativity. The chef was rude to the guests. Similarly, the housekeeping staff was unwelcoming and at one point one of them raised their voice to me when I asked them why they had not cleaned our room by noon. The staff openly discuss their discontent with their employers about their working conditions. The entire management (perhaps owners too) and staff need proper hospitality training.
