Blue Gum Country Estate

We recently booked for 2 nights. When we checked it we saw the state of the bathroom. In particular the shower floor tiles were not clean. We decided based on this to not stay the night. The manager Anton offered and subsequently refunded me for the two night stay. He explained that it was just a discoloration from the water, however I am still not convinced. To me it looked definitely like mold. There is also no back up electricity when Eskom is down. It is a pitty.

Awesome dining experience! We arrived just after we experienced load shedding so we were forced to have a candle-lit dinner, which created a more intimate setting. The food was of great quality and the service was amazing. Since this was our honeymoon, Anton, the owner, provided us with a little something special to cap off our wonderful time there!

Our stay at Blue Gum was absolutely spectacular. The cottages are tastefully decorated with more than enough appliances, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and the surroundings are indeed picturesque. Seeing the night sky and hearing the calls of the animals was absolutely priceless. I recommend this family orientated gem and we will definitely return. Thank you Anton and Team!

Lovely weekend getaway, good trails for light hikes, charming service in the restaurant, close to Stanford.

I was really impressed!! The rooms are large, comfortable and has everything you need. We even had our own private courtyard. The food are exceptional and the best part is they are completely family friendly. The staff went out of their way to satisfy our 10 year old daughter and to top it off the chef even specially prepared her favourite meal. We will be back!!

We had the most wonderful two night stay at Blue Gum.We were extremely lucky to be upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite in the Farmhouse Rooms which has stunning views over the valley, a fireplace in the suite (which we made use of both nights !) and a lovely bathtub in the room.The staff at Blue Gum without exception are warm, friendly and helpful - one feels very much at home from the outset.The position of the Estate is just perfect with different dramatic views in every direction - my favourite is the mountain immediately above the estate which at the moment is covered in autumn fynbos and huge blooming protea bushes. Blue Gum has a 1km trail up the hillside to a magnificent lookout point which is perfect for sundowners at sunset or an early morning walk before the delicious buffet breakfast.There is also a 5km trail around the estate designed for families and younger children with wonderful surprise destinations" en route that kids would just love - it is so well thought out and executed.We had previously visited Blue Gum 5 years ago for a huge family weekend gathering for my Mom's 80th birthday and visiting again brought back happy memories of that very successful birthday celebration.We enjoyed the Sunday lunch buffet on our arrival in the Cafe which is open to the public and everyone seemed to be enjoying their lunch in the wonderful autumn sunshine. They kindly prepared a special fish main for my husband who doesnt eat meat but I loved the chicken curry and the homemade tomato soup garnished with toasted seeds was one of tastiest tomato soups I've ever hadThe daily buffer breakfast is also so delicious - particularly loved the French toast and the muesli pie !We wont leave it so long before visiting Blue Gum again.ps we also enjoyed visiting the village of Stanford which is just a short drive away

For a luxurious stay, visit Blue Gum. Staff are friendly and attentive. The guest rooms are spacious and spotless.The menu does not cater for halaal. There are vegetarian options for each mealtime.We did not have enough time to explore Stanford as there was enough to do on site. You can stroll the grounds with its beautiful garden or take a short hike up the nearby mountain. A great weekend retreat.

Stayed at the Stanford Valley Guest Farm down the road, but had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Blue Gum. One of the few restaurants around Stanford not closed for dinner from Mondays to Wednesdays. Beautiful gardens. Tastefully decorated interior, good background music, really good food and well presented. Very good atmosphere as well. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Cottages in desperate need for renovation, weird main house decoration, reminding of a 2nd hand flea market, almost full cut down of previous lunch and dining options. current owners turned a previously charming boutique hotel into a soulless self-catering establishment. Not worth it, far better options in the vicinity
