50zar per person is well worth it, been living in western cape so long didn’t even know that so much history is hidden in the small part of the world ,cannot believe how many important historical people descended here in 1700’s ,what a treat , people extremely friendly and lots of history - well done

There is so much history intwined in this area and the very informed guide just shared so easily and well. It was a very memorable experience. We also enjoyed lunch which turned out to be one of my best pie experiences ever. The community was very friendly and the whole Genadendal encounter was one of my most memorable.

Spontaneously decided to pop by from Greyton on New Year’s Day. Everything was closed as expected. What we didn’t expect was to find the place so fascinating so that we’d be bummed that the museum and all facilities were closed. Luckily we stumbled onto the reverends son who gave us a personalised tour of the place and let us into the church. He was so knowledgeable and proud of the town’s history despite not being an actual tour guide. We will definitely be coming back again when we know the museum will be open. Worth a visit

Genadendal has been on my 'must visit' list for ages and it didn't disappoint. A fascinating village, site of the very first teacher's training College in South Africa. The museum is spread out around the beautiful Moravian church and is very much a living museum, there were two separate groups of people doing courses there. People are friendly and helpful and I purchased a locally made amphora from the museum shop for a very reasonable price. There is also a fully functioning blacksmith there, obviously well used because there were horses roaming everywhere in town.

Unfortunately I got there too late so I couldn't go inside. I do wonder though why the residents do not encourage the orchards of lime trees and sell it on a larger scale? There's much to tap into here and market this quaint town on a bigger scale.

Bumped into Reverend Wyngaard, who gave us a tour and background info about this Moravian Mission, the oldest mission in South Africa. The mission also houses the oldest school and teachers training college in South Africa. The missionary who established this mission in the 1600s, was basically not allowed to practice in Cape Town, and after meeting a Khoi San man there he was led to begin this mission station a few hundred kilometers away. His works in mysterious ways. Inspiring story!

It was really interesting, with lots of artifacts to look at. Plenty of information boards explains the Western Cape history.
