What an absolutely beautiful place this was to relax and just enjoy the quiet surroundings. There was no need to go to town so our whole weekend we stayed right at the cottage. Our hosts were very welcoming and catered for our every need. This is the perfect self catering unit!! Thanks Frank and Adele. Hope to see you soon again!

This was a real challenge for the following reasons: 1) I could not leave the place cleaner than I found it 2) I could not think of a single item that was not there that one could possibly ever need 3) it was so hard to leave. What a stunning house with 3 completely separate and private bedrooms all en-suite and kitted out with every kind of creams and shower gels to indulge in. The place was spotless and the owners are so over--generous when it comes to stocking the house and thinking of everything so that you feel completely spoiled. The fireplaces are amazing with the ability to braai inside and out and the scenery and access to lovely walks, runs and cycle paths are incredible. We had such a good rest and the best part was being able to take our 2 Border Collies with us. They loved the freedom and huge green fields to walk around and explore. The hot tub was also a complete treat along with the fishing in the dam (huge carp!). I don't even want to write all this as I am giving away an incredible secret :-) We will be back soon - many times. Thank you Adele and Frank for being awesome hosts!!

he Milk ShedWith Covid changing the financial landscape, taking short breaks have become somewhat of a luxury even for someone like me that use to live on the road. I was desperate to get away on a little break with my family and we wanted to take our furry babies with us, and especially see how Ellie our newest addition to the family cope with traveling. After doing some research into pet friendly establishments we finally set our sights on a gem of a place called The Milk Shed in Tulbagh. The Milk Shed is a lovely self-catering home on a working farm, surrounded by century old trees, ducks and geese roaming freely and many dams and ponds lace this beautiful oasis in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Our dogs literally ran for hours on end exploring every nook and cranny and were truly welcomed with open arms. For a brief moment it felt like we were in the heart of Southern France. The rooms are spacious with en-suite bathrooms and this three bedroomed cottage also offers a private hot tub, ‘braai’ room and spacious living room and kitchen. It’s a great escape for families and furies alike. The cottage itself offered every single amenity known to man. I was very impressed with the extensive “yummies” that awaited us. From fresh muffins, juices too crisp, nuts, chocolates and a lovely breakfast basket consisting of a wide selection of cereals and homemade rusks. The coffee tray in the kitchen boasted with at least 5 variety of coffees, teas and even a big container of Milo. We tried to nibble on everything but simple could not manage to enjoy it all. The offerings was just too overwhelming. For anyone doing a lovely road trip through the Cape Winelands will truly lose their heart on this little paradise called Tulbagh. Tulbagh, named after Dutch Cape Colony Governor Ryk Tulbagh, is a town located in the Land van Waveren" mountain basin

The attention to detail, the comfort, the luxury, the location - the list goes on. All in all, it equates to fabulously comfortable accommodation - and they are dog-friendly!We arrived as strangers and left as friends.

What an amazing stay we had at The Milkshed. Adele and Frank were the perfect hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. The freshly baked goodies awaiting us was also such a delightful surprise. The accommodation provided everything we needed, well furnisished and meticulously clean. The jacuzzi is obviously the best place from where to watch the stars in this charming farm setting. Completely pet friendly, our border collies had the time of their life, with ample space to stretch their legs and a dam close-by to cool off in (and catch fish on catch and release basis). We had so much fun and will definitely return.

We spent an incredible three days at The Milkshed and couldn’t have asked for a better experience or more hospitable hosts. Adele truly thought about everything aspect of our stay - from the convenience of cooking by gas or braai during load shedding to the welcome generator and air-conditioning to keep the intense Tulbagh heat at bay. We were welcomed with an array of snacks, coffee, and teas, and we were even accommodated with our request for no-lactose milk. These are definitely massive extras and a deft touch in making us feel so welcome. The accommodation was spacious, neat and clean as a pin with every amenity you could think of (including all types of mozzie spray and cleaning detergent). The hot tub and the stunning outdoor braai area under a towering old oak were welcome in the evening. Bird enthusiasts and fresh water (carp) anglers will also appreciate the lake and the birdlife.Frank and Adele have a gem of a place that is exceptionally well-priced for what it offers. And, bonus, it's dog friendly. We highly recommend a stay at The Milkshed.
