Vanderkloof has a calming atmosphere. Can get really hot in summer and winter is never truly cold. If you like fishing then you're at the right place. There is also a boat club that charges R50 for the day. Other packages also available. Tons of self catering units, camping and luxury accommodation available at reasonable prices.

When we visited,the dam was overflowing and it was beautiful. The problem with the town is that it is busy going under. There is no filling station, you have to fill up in Petrusville when you visit. The municipal pool is up of sale. The municipal campsite is falling apart and you cannot visit it. So with the chalets it really didn’t look good. However I believe the town is worth a visit just to support whatever businesses there are as-well as the community. The area in which the damAnd the town is situated is beautiful and warrants a visit. There are a few guesthouses as well as the fantastic Sandgat campsite about 6 km from the town right on the riverbank. Go and support the local community.
