The Glass House Restaurant
This was one of our favorite meals from our 5 weeks in South Africa. We arrived in the midst of a load-shedding period, but the staff could not have provided a better experience in spite of having no electricity. The candle light throughout the restaurant was lovely, and as we visited on a cold day in late June, we sat near a propane heater that kept us comfortably warm. The food was simply delicious. We warmed up with beer and wine, then we ordered bobotie, topped with bechamel sauce and chutney, served with fried potatoes, Cole slaw, pumpkin, and rice with bananas and sweet spices. Amazing! For dessert we shared a dish of Malva pudding, our first in South Africa and one of the best. The owner circulated throughout the restaurant, checking in to make sure everyone was ok, greeting the regulars as well as the newcomers like us. If we lived in Graskop, we would definitely be among the regulars.

If I could rate the Glass House with a hundred stars I would! This restaurant comes highly recommended and a reservation is a must (it is fully booked on most nights). It has a cosy and romantic setting with meals that will rival some of the fine dinning restaurants in major cities. The best part of this establishment is it’s host, Uncle Abe. He is welcoming, charming, friendly, funny and takes pride in personally seeing to each of his guests. A must visit if you’re in Graskop! Thank you Glass House and Uncle Abe for an amazing dinner and experience.

This is a small restaurant with a big impact.First impression is 'it's fancy and treatment will be strict' then you quickly learn you are treated as a friend.Getting to the important part, the food is absolutely amazing! Porting size exceed expectations of large, tasty does not even begin to describe! This is however not the place to bring your kids a not the place for younger crowd. Basically, bring your date here!!!

A little cosy restaurant in the middle of Graskop which is run by Uncle Abe as the people call him there. Ask anyone in Graskop and even in the surrounding areas and 9 out of 10 will refer you to The Glass House Restaurant and the friendly uncle Abe". I stayed over in Graskop fir only one night so visited the restaurant only once but the food was fantastic and so were the waiters. Make a point to visit when you are in the area

Lovely experience at Abes’s place, who’s is super friendly und always looking after his guests. The food is great, the fillet steak as well as the lamb shank were super tender! The ambiance is nice, especially when the lights go out for load shedding and the oil candles lights remain, very romantic! Reservations recommended as the place is not that large and gets full very quickly!

5 stars! It was yum yum yum. I went with my boyfriend last night. It was so good we'll be back tonight.I was the only black person in there. It was very comfortable, though.Abe would check in on us. Very funny man. The food was delicious! As a tourist, this is one of the highlights of our trip.

What an awesome experience and a must visit if you are in graskop. Food was outstanding .. the highlight for me was the bread pudding which brought back so many childhood memories. Small and niche personalized experience.. be sure to book beforehand to avoid being disappointed.

Very unique experience, we ordered Lamp Shank and Spare Ribs. Portions were so huge that we were absolutely full when we left. The herbs on the lamp.. That was really one of the most tender and best roasts ever. red house wine was also very tasty. The senior is a real original and his son was very friendly, almost a little shy. Would absolutely recommend this place, coming from Hamburg/Germany. Cheers, Julian

The most random menu ever with an A+++ for every dish! When I first dined here, I didn’t know what to expect, different kinds of SA dishes, curry’s, steak and German chicken schnitzel’s all on the same cute menu?I didn’t expect much, but boy was I wrong, the Schnitzel tasted like I was back in Austria, the curry like India and the steak was also extremely well done, and all of that for a good affordable price! Can highly recommend this place.
