Kobus se Gat - Swartberg Experience
We're enjoying the beautyful self catering accomodation with excelent views of the Swartberg Mountains covered in snow. For lunch we had some awesome kerrie and cheese rooster brood. Unfortunatly the pass was closed due to the snow forming a layer of ice on the road surface and many vehicles geting stuck near the top.

A very nice off the beaten track place. The staff & management are very friendly & enjoy socialising with the patrons. Milo the collie is a friendly dog that enjoys a good pat & scratch. The food is very traditional and tasty with a variety of different dishes to serve up..The views are breathtaking & the many mountain passes through the area are a pleasure to ride on a motorbike. An excellent place to relax and enjoy the countryside

We only stopped there for a coffee and beer. But the atmosphere and location is stunning. We were surprised at how big the place was. I will return again for a evening event to see the massive fire pit in operation.

Outstanding roosterkoek ever! I choose to eat it plain with butter because the texture and taste is just excellent on its own. I proposed that plain roosterkoek might go well with garlic butter (which is not on the menu). Lovely drive out and beautiful views.

Kobus se Gat - Swartberg Experience
Coming from The Travelling Tortoise via Prince Albert, Swartberg Pass, we where looking for place for a much needed breakfast. At the start\end of the pass did Kobus se gat appeared. First we thought it was closed but after entering we knew our long awaited breakfast will be served here.If your seating is outside, the view of the mountains are awesome. They brought very quickly umbrellas as the sun was quite intense. The food was basic. Time was not an issue, so the longish waiting period, where ingnored. We will visit it again, if we are hungry and in the ficinity.

Kobus se Gat - Swartberg Experience
Meals were great, prices were reasonable and the portions were enormous. All meals were made to order (so took some time but came out great). Highly recommended as a stop along the Swartbergpas.

Kobus se Gat - Swartberg Experience
Thirty of us descended on Kobus se Gat, unannounced, without booking, during the early afternoon, at the tail end of a major cold front when Swartberg Pass was officially closed to traffic. Understandably, they were unable to serve such a large number quickly. The owner suggested we order our hot drinks - tea and plunger coffee - and use his venue for having our own picnic lunch. We took him up on his kind offer. We thank Kobus for providing shelter from the howling cold wind to 30 odd cold and hungry travellers. The coffee did its job. Baie dankie. As an aside, you can hire 29er MTBs here for cycling Swartberg Pass.
