I've recently returned from an amazing road trip in South Africa. We rented a BMW 1250 GS from GS Africa and rode from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, stopping at Hermanus, Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay and Jeffrey's Bay. The service we received from GS Africa was second to none. From the initial enquiry to the completed journey everything was straightforward, uncomplicated and well organised. The bike itself was in fantastic condition and a pleasure to ride. The handover of the bike in Port Elizabeth was as scheduled and our deposit was returned promptly. I'd love to ride more in South Africa in the future and I will certainly be using GS Africa again if I do!

I had a great experience with the GS Africa team in Cape Town! They were accommodating in more ways than one and I was impressed with their level of detail, the quality of the bikes, and the overall experience. I will certainly rent from them again.

What an amazing experience renting from GS Africa! The staff are just lovely and truly love what they do and providing you the best experience possible. Knowledgeable, fast, friendly, and fun!As I was riding down to Cape Hope it struck me what a fantastic time in history we get to live in. Here I was, an American, riding a German bike, in South Africa, heading towards the bottom of the world.Life is made up of these little decisions and adventures we choose along the way, and GS Africa helped me experience this amazing land in the way I most love to (cruising through scenic turns and hills on an agile bike)

We would like to thank GS Africa Motorcycle Rentals for a great and unforgettable travel experience. We rented a BMW R1250 GS from Germany and experienced excellent communication from the very first moment. When we arrived in Cape Town our motorbike was ready and waiting for us at the arranged pick-up time. Everything was prepared as arranged. We had a small breakdown on our journey and GS Africa helped us immediately and competently. The return of the motorbike went absolutely smoothly and the GS Africa team was also very fair and accommodating. Working with GS Africa was unbelievable fun and renting a motorbike there can be recommended without reservation. We hope to come back soon.

After traveling from the United States to South Africa I decided spur of the moment to rent a motorcycle and venture out to see parts of the country that I would not have been able to see otherwise. The GS team persuaded me into renting a GS rather than a Harley for my adventure and it was the best outcome possible. The bike seemed brand new. Though I wasn’t taking one of their tours Candi worked with me in setting up a route that would work for me and my desired destinations. They made themselves available around the clock for any questions I had and responded quickly. They had no problems when I asked to postpone my turn in date and continue traveling. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful with the entire rental process. 10/10 will be back again with friends to rent. Huge thank you to Candi, Talent and Shane for helping me out with one of the most memorable motorcycle trips of my life! Great run business and was sad to turn in my ride and leave the country. Until next time! They then went above and beyond and recommended places to stay and last minute things to do while in Cape Town and connected me with future lodging.

Incredibly helpful and friendly team members! Lots of laughs and helpful pointers during the check in and check out process. The GS Africa experience was bike rental PLUS exceptional hospitality. I will be renting from them again for my next SA adventure!

They are good if nothing goes wrong, but they have an uncompromising one-sided approach if things don’t go to plan. Going on a motorbike trip in South Africa was on my bucket list. I picked up the bike in Cape Town and dropped it off in Johannesburg after 16 days and I had a fantastic time. Usually when things go wrong, it is an opportunity to make unexpected memories and the purpose of this review is to give potential customers some pointers to avoid stressful experience with GS Africa.1. Thoroughly examine the bike to make sure it is mechanically okay and the tyres will last for the duration of your trip. They will take you through the bike in terms of any existing damage, but don’t assume that everything else is fine. The clutch was slipping on my bike and was changed on day 2. The tyre on the replacement bike didn’t have enough tread and needed a tyre change on day 10. So far I was cool, because you could argue that an in-experienced rider wouldn’t have noticed the slipping clutch and hadn’t reported it and a last minute change of bike meant the tyre wasn’t looked at.2. If anything goes wrong, start by threatening legal action, because Paul will make your life hell and will refuse to do the right thing if you allow him. He refused to accept that the tyre was illegal until I took a de-tour to a dealer in Durban who confirmed the bike was not safe to ride. Then he refused to allow the dealer to change the tyre because he said, they were too expensive. I was still cool and focused on finding a compromise and offered to pay 1000 ZAR towards the cost difference of 1300 ZAR. But surprisingly, Paul was uncompromising and insisted that I should wait a day and take the bike to a garage of his choosing. At this time, I was still trying to keep cool and thought about the tight margins in a family run business struggling after the pandemic so I agreed. I wasted another day, went to the garage, they took the tyre off and realised that GS Africa had ordered the wrong tyre. Again, keeping cool, I asked for options, I was told to either wait another day or cary on with unsafe tyres until they source a tyre. Unbelievable…….That is when, I lost my patience and threatened legal action. Soon I was back at the dealer and the tyre was changed. I caught up with the group having missed 2 days of my 16 day tour. If he contests this version of the events, I will produce photographic evidence.3. If there is any damage, including minor scratches to a plastic hand guard, they will send the bike to a DEALER and charge you for the repair. Remember, they had told me dealers are too expensive!4. With regard to the deposit, relax it will eventually appear in your account. I returned the bike on the 15 March, the deposit was in my account on the 7 April. Depending on the currency changes and bank fees you may not get back what you pay.In summary, they are good if nothing goes wrong, Candi-Lee and Shaun were very friendly and helpful but Paul is the decision maker and is an absolute disaster.I have given them 2 stars because they have the right set up and good bikes and if you follow the steps above you will have a fantastic time in South Africa. Edit regarding your comments- 1. When I returned the bike, you didn’t even ask about my experiences, you just wanted to record the condition of the bike. I didn’t shake your hand and didn’t say “all good, fully understood”. 2. It’s unfortunate that you are not willing to accept responsibility and resort to smearing others, even your trusted garage ruled that the tyre was not safe. 3. I have added a photo of the tyre when you were asked to change it and one when it was actually changed. This is the tyre you said was fit for the trip.

Renting a BMW 310 GS to do a “bucket list”!!! Many thanks to Candi-Lee for helping me to realise a dream. I rented a 310 GS to drive the Chapmans Peak road on a motorcycle. The drive was awesome and I continued until Kommetjie, thereafter is started raining and at Scarborough I had to turn around back to Cape Town. The 310 GS had enough power, easy to handle and made my solo-trip something to always remember. I would recommend this to everybody!!!

Great holiday and excellent biking around the Cape in March 2023. Candi-Lee was extremely helpful in all the planning stages of our trip and the paperwork was all in place ahead of our arrival from the UK. Few small niggles with the bikes we rented but nothing serious and easily overcome. Just one thing to be aware that you need to have a healthy credit card limit as the insurance excess will be fully charged before you leave GS with your rental bike. Can also take a few weeks to get it refunded if no issues (damage etc) to the bike. Overall very pleased with the service received from GS Africa. Final note of advice, just be careful on the cobbled road in front of the premises. Safe riding and thanks to GS Africa for all the support.

Were able to rent a motorcycle on a Saturday morning and leave one hour later. GS Africa was very flexible, spontaneous and helpful. The communication was uncomplicated and timely. We were able to rent helmet, gloves, smartphone holder and other things without any problems. The motorcycle was in great condition and really shined. The return was also uncomplicated, fast and hospitable. We spent a few more minutes there and had an interesting exchange. Motorcycle rental highly recommended.Thank you for the super friendly Service.
