Balies gat is a true treasure. We will be back. PS yes there is only 1 toilet and shower for ladies and 1 toilet and shower for gents but we never had to wait for anyone... So we didn't notice this problem. They are currently building another ablution and 2 more sites. The cabins look incredible.

Oupa Tienie, one of Baliesgat's new luxury tents is very close to heaven on earth. We had a wonderful stay in this picturesque, tranquil and peaceful environment. The tent was well equipped and had everything we needed. Good quality linnen and bedding. Beautiful vintage furniture and crockery helps to create a warm homely atmosphere. Bathing outdoors under the stars was a highlight. Thank you Marius and Yvonne for your hospitality. We would highly recommend Baliesgat as a breakaway if you are looking for a quite place, close to nature to recharge your batteries. Worth every cent!

The road to Balie’s Gat is worth the trip. The campsite near the big rock formation is really beautiful. A small walk from that camp will bring you to a cute little river which would be perfect for a picnic. If you walk up the hill, the view is stunning especially at the sunset. The camp has cleaned ablutions and toilets. Maybe too small if camp is full.

An absolute gem! We have been there twice now, and will return again! The best grassy campsites and beautiful clear skies for amazing star gazing. We and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed cooling off in the rockpools and the bathroom are neat and clean. Thank you for a memorable visit!

An amazing weekend in a secluded, tranquil and peaceful campsite with stunning mountain views. The river and rock pools are great to swim in. And it’s dog friendly which is a bonus! I’ve been back, and I’ll go back again. Thank you to the owners for selling wood, ice and preservatives.

Our stay at Balie'sGat was nothing short of amazing. I would recommend 10/10. Yvonne and Marius are such lovely people. They offer a few homemade products, which are delicious. (We bought some piesang chutney & honey). Nice hiking trails and rock pools. It was a bit cold so we didn't attempt swimming, but we sat there for quite a while just listening to the riverstream. We stayed in one of the cabins. It had everything we needed.Can't wait to go back!

Our first visit to this hidden treasure...and most certainly will not be our last! Beautiful! Well thought out camping, clean ablutions, soft green grass and just the right amount of peace and quiet. The natural rock pools are just what is called for on a hot summers day. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. High clearance vehicle a must, leave the cells phones at home (no reception anyway - great to detox), pack in some fishing tackle. If you want something special then Balie'sGat is a must - don't bother with any other overcrowded site in the lower Cederberg.

Beautiful campsite, clean ablutions, nice swimming hole in the river. Awesome road to drive to get in and out of the valley. Will surely be back again.

Had the best time. Beautiful campsites, breathtaking views, and lovely hiking trails. One of the owner’s dogs, Ounooi, absolutely stole my heart. Well mannered, friendly and absolutely lovable. I will definitely be back to visit Ounooi soon.
