Found this shop in the Yellow Pages. I needed 2 meranti boards cut to specific sizes and was given a quote of R2000. It was expensive considering the size, but I agreed and paid a cash deposit of R500. I picked up the boards 2 weeks later and paid the balance in cash, and got a handwritten receipt on a plain piece of paper.I only measured the boards when I got home, and found they were thinner than what I wanted - one of them was 30mm vs the 35mm I asked for, and the other 17mm instead of 20mm. The bigger board was badly joined together from several pieces and the middle part, which was the most important area, was even thinner. The rough surface of the bark was also clearly visible. This was by no means the quality nor the size I expected. I took that board back to the shop immediately and talked to someone whom I believed to be the owner. Not only did he refuse to admit the mistake, he shouted rudely at me several times to get out, returning only R1500 to me. I tried to reason with him but he just continued shouting. Eventually I was told to bring back the second board and the receipt to get the remaining R500. So I went there for the fourth time to bring back the small board and the paper. The owner, who was then at the top of the stairs, did not come down and shouted again for me to get out and that I won't get my money back. He never intended to give me the balance owed. This behavior is dishonest and a disgrace. Hard to imagine a business would do something like this for R500.This shop charges top prices for sub-standard goods, and if you don't accept the faulty goods, you lose money anyway. Think carefully before doing business with them.
