Really great place for walking and running. Some of the area is quiet wet and muddy from the natural springs/waterfalls so take shoes that have some grip. So glad that our Airbnb host gave us a map as it was well needed on the red route - the route was relatively well marked - just have to look for the painted arrows on the ground. We started by doing the green route, then the orange and then the red route. The red route is very difficult- took us 3.5 hours to do all three routes in one go. The views are amazing. Only concern is that on the red route, the descent section is past a barbed wire fence, which we almost missed as we battled to find where the route went and there were no markers. So you have to go under the fence to descend the last section back into town. This last section on the red route required some bumb sliding to get down the very steep hill.Otherwise very glad we did the trail!

We did the walk around the dam, it was absolutely beautiful and serene. The paths are well-marked with coloured arrows. There wasn't parking indicated as demarcated for anyone going to the area, so cars were parked near the entrance. You need a permit, which a few places are said to sell. We got ours at Protea Hotel for R30 p/p and for R40 more, you can get a map. Remember to ask to buy one though because we weren't advised that they were available for sale until we asked about the route's starting point. I didn't feel that the routes are punted as well as they could be, but now we know what to look out for with regards to the entrances to the hiking spots - specifically the signage of the last image (it was super confusing on Day 1).

Great walks along the river in the shade of the trees on hot summer days. Interesting cave structures in the sandstone cliffs. Beautiful views al the way to Lesotho.

A very well maintained and cared for nature reserve with a great selection of walking trails through beautiful countryside. Maps and permits are available in town at various stores and the paths are all well signposted with benches at viewpoints along the way.

It’s always a pleasure to be unbound in nature. Even though you can see the roofs and part of the town, it’s relatively quiet. There is a bit of everything for the avid hikers or the casual walkers. The waterfall does not disappoint and the walk is easy and short enough.
