Dr Thomas Jahn
Dr. Thomas Jahn was uniquely placed in his years of study in China to train this very authentic style of Qi-Gong and Xing-Yi as Western disciple of his master, Ma Shi-qi, in Beijing and able to absorb it to such an extent that within a relatively short time he was allowed to transmit the teaching to a Western audience in South Africa on his return to Cape Town. His approach is to allow the student to grow at his own pace in a very relaxed and friendly training space while being very generously provided with the needed knowledge (it’s as if he plugs into some source above the mind and then the knowledge just continuously keeps on flowing down). If the ultimate aim of the martial arts is transformation of character, and that is what you are after, go to one of Thomas’ classes. And continue to go. And keep on doing that. Because ultimately, he knows how to get you to that place of change, by whatever means. The more you train, the more you start to see yourself as you really are, and that is not always a very pretty picture - one of the things he mentions from time to time. Once you see your faults clearly, you can start working on yourself. In the 6 or so years that I’ve been training under Thomas, I’ve never seen him force his will on his students. The quickest way of progress is at one's own pace, he says, and with his very unusual sense of humor – he was born with a silver tongue - there’s never a dull moment in his class or company.Pushing hands with Thomas is not only a chance to try and put into practice the principles taught, it is a way of feeling his absolutely amazing energy and skills and getting one’s joints pushed open for a much-accelerated growth. Not to mention the deep and restful sleep that follows a vigorous training session. He has become a dear friend, not only that, his roles as doctor, acupuncturist and general support system have been incredible. My health has improved immensely. Friends commented on how much I’ve changed since starting to train Qigong under Thomas, having much more self-confidence.Highly recommended.
